Q&A - The Sun Property Plus
25th November 2005

Q.    I WAS born on July 12, 1958 and my wife was born on Sept 19, 1958. Is my house facing a suitable feng shui direction? If not, what is your recommendation?
A. From your birth date, you are born under the trigram of Qian (No 6) and your wife is born under the trigram of Li (No 9). For a person born under the trigram of Qian, the auspicious directions are W, NE, SW and NW. For a person born under the trigram of Li, the auspicious directions are E, SE, N and S. Since you did not provide the direction that your house is facing, I cannot comment on your house. I can, however, recommend that your house should have its main door facing W, with a side door facing S. This would be ideal for both of you, where you would use the main W door most of the time and your wife would use the S door most of the time.

Q. My wife and I have been working for the past 20 years but we hardly have any savings. We have three children and I have to admit that is not easy living in the city. Since we moved into our house 18 years ago, I always get a feeling that something is not right but I just cannot put my finger on it. My wife stopped working five years ago to take care of the children’s education. Although I have a permanent office job, it’s nothing great. I draw a fixed salary and inflation keeps going up. We were hoping for some luck by buying numbers but never struck. However, when we did not buy the particular number, it came out. I will appreciate it if you can advise me on how to improve our situation and my career. Here are our particulars. My birth date is Sept 12, 1960. My wife’s birth date is Feb 28, 1959. Our house is facing NW. Right in front of the house is a lane and our bed is facing SW.
A. The first bit of advice I can provide you is to forget about buying numbers. Some people have the luck and some do not. In your case, I suspect that you do not as you have yet to strike any numbers. So, the first step to wealth is to save the money that you spend on buying numbers.

On a more serious note, your house direction is not helping you at all. Firstly, NW is considered an inauspicious direction for you and your wife. This direction does not support you at all and is actually detrimental to you both. Furthermore, in this year, you are facing the direction which is called Wu Hwang or five yellow. In feng shui circles, this is the inauspicious star and it moves around from year to year. This year, the Wu Hwang is in NW and facing this direction is not a good thing for occupants of the house. Ideally, your house should face N. As it is normally not possible to change the direction your house faces, you can choose to have a side door facing N. As for the lane in front of your house, if it is not coming straight towards your front door, it should not be a problem. As I am not on site to make a proper evaluation, the safe option would be to plant some shrubs to block off the view of the lane from your door.

Q. I shifted to an apartment recently and it’s on the ninth floor. The balcony faces E and the entrance faces W. There are three rooms — the master bedroom where my wife and I sleep is in the SE corner, the guestroom is in the S and the study is partly in the S and SW, while the kitchen is in the SW. The hall covers the NE to the centre and we have our meals between the SW and NE. Both of us belong to the eastern group and my birthday is on July 13, 1945 while my wife was born on March 26, 1943. The lift entrance faces SE and it is on the first floor. There is also a ground floor, so we have 10 floors in total. So, how does feng shui influence the floor we are staying in? Does it affect other aspects of our lives in this period of eight? I have had ambiguous answers to these questions from different people. I would be grateful if you could enlighten me on these matters.
A. You are absolutely right, it is more difficult to define the facing of an apartment. Some feng shui schools consider the balcony as the facing, while others consider the apartment entrance or the main entrance to the block as the facing. For me, it would depend on the circumstances. I would usually consider the apartment entrance as the main facing and my case histories have proven me to be correct.

I will see what I can do with the information you have provided. Bear in mind that without proper measurements I can only make assumptions. For proper feng shui recommendations to be made, the practitioner has to be on site.

You already know that your wife and you belong to the E group of Ming Gua. So, the first thing to consider is your apartment facing W. This is not so good for both of you, especially your wife.

Your bedroom in the SE is pretty average. This is because even though it is in a good sector of SE based on your Ming Gua, it is still not so appropriate as you could be activating either the five or two inauspicious star. A better alternative would be a S bedroom.

As for the feng shui for a whole floor, consider for a moment: Is everyone on the same floor enjoying the same good fortune or suffering the same bad luck? I heavily doubt that this would be the case. I am sure that in every floor there is a mix of both good and bad.

This could be more a case of whether the apartment is suitable for the occupants rather than the feng shui of an entire floor.

Yes, there is a methodology to choose the best floor and from there, the best unit, but ultimately I am more concerned about your main entrance and master bedroom. Only after these major aspects are put right would I consider looking at the floor and the unit location, which I consider to be more of a fine tuning effort.
