Q&A - The Sun Property Plus
29th July 2005

Q.    I AM living in a terraced house facing Northwest (NW). My husband’s gua number is seven while mine is four. We have lived in this house for about six years. Is it true that I need to renovate my house to change it to a period eight house to have good feng shui? I am looking at buying a semi-detached house facing Southeast (SE) with the main door facing the same direction while the toilet and kitchen are in the NW. There is a two-lane road at the back of the semi-dee. There is a small hill after the two-lane road. Is this semi-detached house suitable for my husband and my gua numbers. Do I follow the Eight Mansions or the Flying Star feng shui?
A. When you moved into your house in 1999, this was in period seven. Hence, you would have locked into period seven qi into your house. If you wish to change the qi to lock in the current period’s qi into your house, you will have to perform some renovation. The extent of the renovation would depend on your house. You should purchase a house following both the Eight Mansions and the Flying Star feng shui principles. Based on your description, the house facing SE is unsuitable for your husband. Furthermore, the toilet and kitchen in the NW will not support your husband. This house, however, would be suitable for you as it supports you. The decision in this case would be whether your husband or you are more important to the family as the breadwinner.

Q. We bought a 1-storey corner lot house at Lestari Puchong. The main door is facing south (S) but across the road in front of my house there is a lamppost facing our main door. We have a side entrance, which is facing east. I have attached a rough sketch.
A. Based on your sketch, the lamppost is within your door span and it is therefore not good. Some things do not seem right. If your front door is facing South (S), then your side door should be facing West (W). Measurements should be taken from inside the house facing out. One of the options available to you is: do not use the front door facing the lamppost. Use only the side door. This is only suitable if W is an auspicious direction for you based on your Life Gua. Refer to the chart in the Sun’s Propertyplus March 18 issue for Gua numbers and their corresponding auspicious directions. The other option is to change your S facing door to the centre of your house to avoid the lamppost being within the span of your front door.

Q. We have just bought a condominium unit, which has its balcony facing North (N) and the main door facing S. The toilets are sited in the S and East (E). Our room is located in the Northeast (NE). I am a female born on Dec 8, 1979, while my partner was born on July 23, 1974. Our auspicious directions are opposite. Do I follow my partner’s auspicious direction or mine? What can we do to improve my partner’s health and our relationship? What direction should we position our bed or is there anything we can place in the room to improve our relationship? .
A. Based on your birth dates, your Life Guas are Dui (Gua No 7) for 1974 and Zhen (Gua No 3) for 1979. In such a situation you will have to decide which one is more important or a better yardstick would be who has a better income? The entrance is not too good for Dui Gua but the bedroom in the NE is okay. On the other hand, the entrance in the S is great for the Zhen Gua but the bedroom is not too good. Assuming that the Zhen Gua person is the better breadwinner, the bedroom in the NE is not a bad choice as it would then support the Dui Gua. The bed direction is the tricky part. I suggest having the bedhead point towards the Southwest. This is a compromising situation. Any further suggestions can only be made on site as yours is a tricky situation because of the opposed Life Guas.
