Q&A - The Sun Property Plus
24th June 2005

Q.    I WOULD like to know which direction or place I should place my aquarium?
A. The placement of an aquarium is a very important aspect of feng shui. An aquarium is a major activating factor. In fact, any water feature is important because water, by its very nature, can never be still. It takes only the slightest breeze or vibration to move it. This movement activates the qi of the location the water feature is placed, either positively or negatively.

The placement of water or aquarium is not something that can be generalised. The proper location is based on the direction of the property, the Gua of the person, the timing and the room you wish to put the aquarium in. As an example, using only the timing aspect, water should be placed in the North, Southwest, East and Southeast. However, if you have a South-facing house, placing water in the East is not suitable.

This is an example where the timing can be in conflict with the house and we still have not taken into consideration the other factors. Personally, my advice is: if in doubt of the position, do not place any water there. If you do place an aquarium in your home, monitor the situation. If good events are not taking place, you should remove the aquarium immediately.

Q. I have just bought a 30-year-old 1-storey corner unit with 15ft of land, which is sited at a T-junction. With minimal research done and desperate to buy a landed property, I realised later that the main gate or entrance of my property faces West (W).

I plan to renovate this old house into a 1 1/2 - storey unit with the master bedroom on the top floor. How can I counter the problem of facing West and the setting sun? When can I start renovating and should I shift the main gate to face South?

A. A house facing W is not necessarily a problem from the feng shui viewpoint. What I am more concerned about is that the property faces a Tjunction, which is considered inauspicious 99 times out of 100. As you have not moved into the house, you may commence renovation this year.

I cannot provide an actual commencement date as it needs to be calculated from various aspects, which requires an on-site visit.

Another piece of advice would be to have the upper level towards the back so that your house is higher at the back than the front.
