Q&A - The Sun Property Plus
3rd June 2005

Q.    I RECENTLY bought a townhouse unit on the upper level and would like to place a mirror for aesthetic purposes in the dining area behind the dining table. The dining area faces directly towards the balcony, with a sliding door that faces north [N]. Someone told me that it is bad practice to place a mirror towards a door or a sliding door as it will reflect whatever luck that enters the house. Is that true?
A. It is certainly true that the placement of a mirror at the entrance of a home is not good. In your case, it is possible as I do not consider the balcony door to be an entrance.

I would be more concerned about whether the mirror is in a good place as mirrors have the effect of doubling and reflecting the qi of a particular sector, both good and bad.

Q. My Gua number is 1. According to the lay out plan, my 2-storey house faces 167º 29ft 10inches south [S] but the compass reading of the ground floor is around 140º and the first floor 167º. In this case, which direction should I follow? My front door faces a telephone satellite tower, which is about 1km away. Should I hang a concave or convex Ba Gua mirror? In front is an empty piece of land.
A. You should take the reading from the front door because this is the actual door through which you enter the house on a daily basis. With your house facing S, this will be good for you, especially where harmony and people skills are concerned.

Since the telephone satellite tower is quite far away, I would not be too concerned. A Ba Gua mirror could help.

Q. I am a female born on Aug 9, 1956 at 4.07am. My house faces southwest [SW] 1. How do I read the N, S, east [E] and west [W] corners of my house? Do I face the corner or should my back face the corner while holding the compass? How do I determine which area is the centre of my house?
A. Based on your date and time of birth, your life Gua number is 7. This means that your good directions are northwest, SW, northeast [NE] and W. Based on your life Gua, your main door facing SW is quite good but how good would depend on the actual direction to the degree.

The corners of your house are normally read from the centre of your house. You can do it both ways: Stand in the centre and measure to the corner or stand in the corner and measure to the centre of the house, whichever is easier.

There is no exact centre of a house. It is an area used as a subjective reference only. The easiest way is to sketch a plan of your house and determine the direction of your corners from there (see diagram).

Q. Lately or since January, I have been feeling that luck is not on my side. How can I enhance my luck? I was born in the year of the dragon. Should I put a dragon in my house and can the E sector protect me? What is the best way to be protected from bad qi or luck?
A. I assume you were born in 1964, 1975 or 1987, in which case, you would not want to enhance your E sector but your SW or NE sectors. The best way to do this is to have your door and bed head facing those directions as well.

A dragon would not help. The animal zodiac is just a reference of the year you were born in. It does not mean that a person born in a dragon year has the qualities of a dragon or that a dragon is your guardian angel.
